textiles, thus sowing the seeds for a life long relationship with Fabindia.
As he gained experience and confidence, Yasin felt it was time to start his own business. The young entrepreneur moved back to Naugaon and set up his first loom in partnership with Mohd. Haneef under the name of ‘HY Textiles’. Their first order came from Tara Sawhney for Alwar fabric. Later, in 1978, the partnership dissolved and Mohd. Yasin started an independent venture by the name of ‘Usha Handloom’. He received his first order from Fabindia through RF textiles for napkins and mats. The second order came directly from Fabindia for tea towels, napkins and mats. By 1988, the Fabindia connection, made in his early years, was further cemented when he started manufacturing and supplying furnishing fabrics such as Rajput, Ruby, PQ, Taaru, Varsha and Paldi, apart from Satnapali garment fabric .With a steady flow of orders from Fabindia, Yasin and his company grew. He changed the name of his company from ‘Usha Handloom’ to ‘Usha Textiles’. He also introduced Mehboob Textiles, Maulana Textiles and Shabana Handloom to Fabindia
From four looms in 1978, twenty-five in 1988 and nearly seventy looms today and a work force of fifty-masters, dyers, weavers and packers, Yasin has come a long way. His success is owed to hard work, integrity and sincerity. Today, Yasin owns two companies, Usha Textiles and Asha Handloom Fabrics and specializes in making all regular Nabha fabric, Nabha Double, Nabha Bindi and Khirki Upholstery fabric. His tireless and personal supervision ensures consistent quality. Even at 58, his enthusiasm and thirst for new challenges has not waned.
Mohd. Yasin has four sons and seven daughters. Four of his daughters are married. His sons are learning the ropes under his guidance and he hopes that they will eventually set up their own looms. His desire to help and encourage is not limited to just family and friends. He dreams of a prosperous Naugaon and is always ready to help and support the weak and the needy in his village. He recalls how a few years ago Naugaon was a sleepy little town and today it is buzzing with big and small enterprises. Yasin credits Fabindia with instilling in him the correct values and ethics of business. He is grateful for the encouragement and support he received from Fabindia. |
